Coverall, onesie, jumpsuit; the tomboys version of dress. A head to toe garment, a complete outfit on it’s own, but with pants! The originals were invented in the 20’s for men who maintain coal-fired boilers. While coveralls for the purposes of protecting clothing still exist, a purely decorative version is just as readily available.
For me, the dilemma was trying to find the right one. A google image search for the word jumpsuit revealed mostly corsets with pants attached, definitely not my style. I wanted something that stayed true to the original that didn’t make me look like I was about to work on an car’s engine. I saw plenty of photos of ones that looked perfect but alas no details about where the jumpsuit was from.
Then by chance I found this one at Topshop while they were having a clearance sale for their summer pieces. Not technically menswear (this one was made for a woman, one much taller then me but size 12 was all they had left) it certainly was inspired by mens boiler suit. Even though it is a summer item, I think the long sleeves, heavy fabric and dark colour make it perfect for fall.
