Big Time Borrower
If you’ve read the introduction to this blog then you will know that my love for men’s clothes started early and it started with borrowing. Borrowing Dad’s shirts or hand-me-downs from my older brother or cousin. Well, the start was by far the end.
In university I would borrow from my male friends far more often then my female friends. I loved my (then) boyfriend’s dress shirts and would always try to turn them into dresses. He was 6’4, I am 4’11 so everything was already kind of a dress on me. I would borrow my best friend’s sweatshirts for months on end. I would try to raid my roommates closets.
I learned two things; the first being how much I enjoyed borrowing/wearing these new found treasures. The second was how much men hate when you steal their clothes, especially if you aren’t sleeping with them. So, I started looking through the men’s sides of my favourite stores, checking vintage stores for more hand-me-downs so I would no longer need to borrow. And I don’t…
But that doesn’t mean I won’t. Unluckily for him, my live-in boyfriend has a similar style to me and sometimes I just can’t help myself. Like today when I borrowed this lovely black speckled fisherman’s sweater from his closest. It seemed like the perfect thing to wear on this gloomy, fall day. It’s long enough to wear as a dress but I pulled it over a black shirt dress for extra warmth. It looked like it might rain so I pulled on my wellies to complete the look.
It may annoy my boyfriend that I borrow his clothes from time to time, but at least I can return the favour. How many girlfriends can say that?
