Imagine if your life was one of her movies. Perfect lighting, a pastel dream with an awesome soundtrack. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve watched Lost in Translation. Marie Antoinette is one of my favourite movies and I can’t wait for the Little Mermaid. But the girl behind the lens is equally as inspiring: Sofia Coppola. She’s one of my favorite directors and a personal style icon. Marc Jacob’s muse and friend, wife to Thomas Mars, she oozes cool and knows a thing or two about fashion. Her understated style is one to covet.

Coppola has minimalism down to a tee. Her trademark style is cigarette trousers, t-shirt and ballet flats. She always looks feminine, even in a suit. She doesn’t shy away from men’s wear (girl wears a lot of button ups) but she still looks soft. She’s never overdressed and keeps her outfits simple yet beautiful.

The real reason I adore Sofia’s style comes down to her effortlessness; less about her clothes and more about the presentation. Whether she’s on the red carpet, chilling in trainers and a trench coat, or being filmed naked in a pool (with Marc Jacob) she looks at ease. It can’t be taught, but we can all look over with envy.

This is my best AVEC LUI x Sofia Coppola inspired outfit. Black trouser with a striped t-shirt. Ballet flats aren’t really my jam so instead I went for a menswear inspired flat. Basic, but classic, à la Sophia.
