I said it before, and I’ll say it again: the romper is the tomboy’s ‘dress’. One item that makes a full outfit, but you can still climb trees and do cart-wheels, at least without flashing your knickers. While your agility may not be a priority anymore, at least since your sandbox days, the romper is still perfect for a grown-up tomboy.
The jumpsuit, cousin to the romper, was very popular in the 70’s, not just among women but men as well. Picture a leisure suit, but the jacket and pants are attached. Elvis would wear them to perform, but his of course were studded with rhinestones. David Bowie and Freddie Mercury also rocked the onesies on stage; again, their’s were bedazzled and very tight. While you may not see the likes of this too often these days, it still remains the perfect summer outfit for tomboys.
This one caught my eye because of it’s simplicity. I fell in love with the romper that Dakota Fanning’s character wears in Very Good Girls and knew I had to get a denim one for the summer. In fact, I wanted everything Dakota Fanning wears in the movie; both girls have a 70’s style but Dakota’s was much more simple and classic, while Elizabeth Olsen’s was leaning heavily towards ‘flower child’. Either way, rompers have never been easier to find, and this is the summer to rock one.
